Creating neuro-inclusive environments where people feel supported to thrive benefits everyone! 👏
We recently had the pleasure of delivering two ‘Introduction to Neurodiversity’ training sessions to the volunteer mentors of MCR Pathways – a charity dedicated to helping young people facing disadvantage unlock their full potential through education.
During these engaging webinars, we explored the concept of neurodiversity, challenged common misconceptions, and demonstrated how shifting our mindset around neurodiversity can lead to better outcomes for everyone. The sessions equipped mentors with the tools to better understand and support neurodivergent young people, creating a more inclusive environment.
A big thank you to MCR Pathways for asking us to be part of this important work! 😄

At The Donaldson Trust, we know that creating truly inclusive environments means constantly learning, listening, and evolving.
During our in-service day on Tuesday, colleagues across the Trust took part in AT-Autism’s Synergy training, delivered by Prof. Richard Mills and, our Head of Connect, Louise Storie.
The session explored:
👉 Promoting understanding and responding to concerns by focusing on the supporter and setting by switching from emotional to reflective responses
👉 Recognising the complex role and nature of trauma, stressors and influences, on our judgements, narratives and actions.
👉 Adopting new ways of thinking and responding to influence outcomes more positively
Huge thanks to Richard and Louise for an engaging and thought-provoking session!

It’s #DeafAwarenessWeek!
Did you know that we provide support to a number of neurodivergent children and young people who are Deaf or hearing impaired?
As The National Body for Neurodiversity, we believe communication should have no barriers. That’s why we embrace a total communication approach — supporting each child and young person to communicate in a way, or combination of ways, that feels right for them.
From British Sign Language to assistive technologies, we use a diverse toolkit to empower the children and young people to express themselves, connect meaningfully with others, and grow in confidence as communicators.
Our goal is for them to feel understood even if they can’t use their voice to speak.

We know that supporting people to build life skills can open up new possibilities – helping them grow in confidence, feel good in themselves, and take steps towards greater independence. And cooking is one of those life skills that does so much more than fill a plate. 👨🍳
Across our services, we focus on wellbeing, building confidence, and improving self-esteem to support individuals to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Here`s a look back at one of our favourite Cooking with James videos. In this clip James, from our Sensational Learning Centre, whips up a delicious cheese and tomato quiche. Simple, tasty, and perfect for a sunny day! 😋

Thank you to all who visited our exhibition stand yesterday at the @alliance.scot Annual Conference ’25 in sunny Glasgow. ☀️
Samantha, Kate, Louise, and Stephen had engaging conversations with a whole host of care and health stakeholders who shared our interest in delivering neuro-inclusive practice and who, in many cases, had direct professional and personal connections with neurodivergence.
Making a case on the importance of greater neuro-inclusion in social care and society is fundamental to what we do at Donaldson’s. We were greatly encouraged by the interest shown in our services (Wellbeing, Adult, and education) as well as our training and advice consultancy and influencing functions.
Some highlights from the day include:
👉 Your health matters: Building a fairer society, delivered by renowned Professor, Sir Michael Marmot
👉 A range of break-out workshops – including on Place, Human Rights, and Impact
👉 Poetry from Nuala Watt, a Scottish (and neurodivergent) poet whose work speaks to her experiences as a disabled person and a mother
👉 Our sensory resources, which were well received by all !
Many thanks to Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland’s team for, once again, putting on a terrific conference.
For those who started conversations with us and left contact details; we will be in touch with you all soon. 💬

First week of the new term — done! ✅
It was great to welcome back the children and young people in our Sensational Learning Centre after the Easter break. And what better way to start the term than with some fluffy new friends? They had a brilliant visit to @hillviewanimalpark yesterday, where they got to feed and cuddle the cutest new arrivals! A lovely hands-on learning experience and a perfect way to end the first week of the new term. 🐑🌼
