24hr Curriculum
Opportunities to learn extend far beyond the classroom at
Donaldson's. Working in close partnership with the school,
Donaldson's Lodge fully embraces the 24-hour curriculum.
Donaldson's Lodge ensures that all opportunities for residential
pupils, full or part time, contribute further to their experience
of education. This includes:
- Linking in with themes and projects from the school curriculum
and developing them in a residential setting.
- Promoting opportunities to take part in play and social
opportunities where communication is not a barrier
- Offering increased exposure to British Sign Language and
experience of using BSL in an array of every day settings including
play, personal care, food and nutrition and special outings.
- Providing opportunities to take part in personal and social
learning experiences fully supported by experienced care staff,
helping our young people to develop resilience and a positive sense
of self esteem. Activities include shopping, budgeting, healthy
living and accessing community resources.
- Developing independence skills within a safe, supported
environment.
- Acquiring skills for safe travel and accessing Donaldson's
local community, promoting independence as far as possible.
"Donaldson's Lodge provides opportunities that promote the
development of self esteem, confidence, communication and social
skills and facilitate the development of appropriate social
relationships in both deaf and hearing environments."
