Donaldson's is Scotland's national school for pupils who are deaf or have communication difficulties.
Donaldson's are preparing for the London 2012 Olympic Games by participating in a collaborative project with local schools.
The Lin'Olympic Games (short for the Linlithgow Olympics) incorporates the Olympic and Paralympic theme into the curriculum. Each primary and secondary school has chosen a country to investigate for the year and will represent this country at the Linlithgow version of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on 9th May 2012 at Linlithgow Rose ground.
Each school is developing a range of activities across the stages to develop the theme, and adopt the values of the games to meet experiences and outcomes in health and wellbeing, literacy, numeracy, expressive arts and social subjects. This includes:
The Olympic values already underpin much of our daily ethos at school, however, being part of this project and the Get Set network community will create new and unique opportunities to attain the qualities aspired to form these values:
Donaldson's will be launching this exciting collaborative project by planting an oak tree donated by the Central Scotland Forest Trust.
The programme has been successful in its bid to achieve the official London 2012 Inspire Programme which recognises outstanding projects and events inspired by the London Olympic Games 2012 across the themes of sport, culture, education, volunteering, sustainability and business. The Inspire Programme offers non-commercial organisations across the UK the chance to link their organisation and events to London 2012.
'We are always attending festivals and competitions out with school which are encouraging participation and supporting the Olympic legacy.'
