Structure and Governance

Donaldson's Board of Governors is charged - under the Trust Scheme - to promote, encourage and develop measures to meet the educational and social needs of children and others, who are deaf or who have a severe speech and language difficulty.

There are 15 Governors in total plus the option to co-opt specialist members to individual sub committees of the Board.  Our Governors are appointed from the education sector, from social work, business and also include parents.  The board is responsible for appointing Donaldson's Principal and the Clerk to Board.

Donaldson's current Board of Governors including a short biography on all members can be downloaded from this page.

The Board has three main standing Committees which meet in the weeks between the main Board meetings.  These are: -

1. Education and Care Committee

The committee ensures the full and timely implementation of legislative requirements from such bodies as Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIe), Care Commission and the Scottish Government.

2. Finance and Audit Committee

This committee is responsible for all areas of finance, including the Budget, Management Accounts and investments.  It is also responsible for risk management and reporting to auditors and OSCR.

3. Business Development Committee.

This committee develops strategies for marketing, public relations, fundraising and commercial activity of the school with the ultimate objective of attracting more pupils and generating an increased level of non-pupil income.

The day to day running of the School is delegated to the Principal, and the Strategic Management Team, supported by the Operational Group.
